Finnish melodic rockers Burntfield have recently released their latest offering, in the form of an EP entitled Cold Heat and although it has its flaws, it’s a promising EP from the fourpiece.
There’s plenty of lush instrumentation and gentle melodies that really resonate well, and it’s a nice easy listen that works well as both background music and as more of an engaging listen – it’s clear a lot of thought has gone into the construction of the piece and it’s really great to see. It’s not the most complex of pieces but it doesn’t need to be – the simplicity works for them. A particularly good element of the music is the use of keys – they’re used as more of a background instrument and aren’t in your face, but they add a lot to the music all the same.
However, at times the vocals do feel like they need a bit of fine-tuning. For the most part, the vocal line is good and adds a lot to the music, but on other occasions – mainly during third track Under The Dome – it feels like there isn’t much control to them and they’re somewhat overpowering, and it hampers your enjoyment of the track somewhat as a result.
As a whole, this is a good little EP, not quite crossing the line to becoming a ‘great’ EP but nevertheless the potential is there for this band to go far as there is a lot of promise within the four tracks.
