Rhetoric are a fast-paced hardcore band consisting of vocalist Felix and multi-instrumentalist Brandon, and their debut release Thoughts And Perspectives is an engaging collection of songs that really pack a punch.
The best thing about Thoughts And Perspectives is the fact that Rhetoric simply powers through each song with a tremendous amount of energy and barely leaves you time to catch your breath between tracks. You get one slab of fantasticly-constructed noise one after another and it goes without saying that this is a band that will put on one hell of a live show once they’ve got a touring lineup together. Each track is brimming with energy and it’s great to witness.
Modern Age particularly stands out from the crowd and the vocal work on this one, which is combined screaming and half-spoken lines, is incredible and shows off the versatility in Felix’s vocals. The guitar line is also great; it conflicts a little with the vocals and it almost feels like the two are battling against each other to take the lead role. On the surface, this sounds like it shouldn’t work, but it does. Make sure you check this one out.
The only problem with Thoughts And Perspectives is that there isn’t much variety between the songs. Although the songs are good, it’s difficult to differentiate between a few of them and they seem to follow similar patterns to one another. However, they’ve got their genre nailed and the energy exerted within these eight tracks is tremendous, so it will be interesting to see where they go next because they’ve got the potential to go very far.
