Moving Brooklyn recently released their EP Intervals (you can read our review of it here). We caught up with guitarist/singer Paul LaBosky to find out a little more about the band.
Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Paul LaBosky, I play guitar and sing harmonies in Moving Brooklyn.
Where did the band’s name come from?
We were all trying to decide on a name, which is the toughest thing in the world. We were pretty settled on a different name which didn’t work out, unfortunately. The idea of Moving Brooklyn was brought to the table after a Tweet and some abstract meaning. I think it took some time to grow on all of us.
How did you get started?
We have all been playing in local bands together for years. One day we all decided that we wanted to start making music together.
What have you got going on at the moment?
Our new EP Intervals dropped on January 14th. We’re really pleased with the reception so far and support from our fans has been great. We recorded it with John Naclerio and he certainly brought out the best in each of us as musicians.
Best experience in the business?
Playing the Hartford, CT date of the 2012 Vans Warped Tour for our second show as a band.
Why should Soundscape readers care?
We are nothing more than a group of guys just doing what we love. We are honest in our intentions. We want to create music that people can relate to, and have some fun in the process.
Tell our readers an interesting fact about yourself?
I like ranch on just about everything.
What’s your writing and recording process?
There’s no rhyme or reason to it. Either I’ll pick up my guitar and just start messing around with chords, or I’ll hear voices in my head telling me to play things (haha). Once I have something, I’ll take it to the other guys and we’ll work on adding/completing the idea. Once we have a concrete idea, we record it with a small 4 mic pro tools set-up in my basement. We try to write/record as much as possible.
What inspires you?
I’m inspired by just about everything from the 90’s.
Who are your role models/idols?
Dean DeLeo, Billy Corgan, and Matt Skiba to name a few.
Hardest thing about the current business?
Getting noticed. There’s a lot of other bands out there doing the same thing. Just have to work as hard as possible to make things happen.
What are your future plans?
With our debut EP now out we’re planning on playing a lot of shows, filming a music video, and working on new material. We are planning on a very busy 2014!
