Loath – Total Peace Review

Loath Total PeaceTotal Peace is the debut release from grind/metal band Loath and to say it’s anything but total peace is somewhat of an understatement because it features ten slabs of noise from start to finish!

For what it is, there’s nothing massively impressive about the album but as a first release, it’s a good starting point. Loath have a lot of potential because they aren’t afraid to stick to one genre – their facebook describes their genre as crust/grind/metal/hardcore but there’s even more elements in than those at times because I picked up on some doom and even a bit of groove metal at times.

One of the stronger tracks is certainly Sect. The spoken sections really lend themselves well to the song and work well at dividing the track up and truly makes the song stand out from the crowd as a result because it’s more of a unique approach than the standard approach taken on the majority of the other tracks on the album.

Total Peace isn’t going to win any awards for originality but for a band just getting going and finding their feet, it’s not a bad effort and there’s a lot of potential for them to grow and improve from here.
