Insomnium – Shadows Of The Dying Sun Review

InsomniumSometimes, it’s nice to just sit back and take in an especially good album, and something that fits the bill is Insomnium’s latest effort Shadows Of The Dying Sun, which is a stunning example of fine song-writing and quality tunes – they’ve really outdone themselves with this one.

With lush instrumentation and atmospheric vocals throughout, you really can’t go wrong with this album and it’s a very consistent release, with there not being any tracks that strike you as ‘bad’ or out-of-place, and it makes for an exceedingly enjoyable and engaging listen as a result.

An immediate highlight is one of the earlier tracks of the album, Revelation, a beautiful number with a very catchy melody that’s largely in the background intertwining with the music, giving the song that extra lift. There’s also a massive-sounding guitar solo at the end; an absolute blinder of a solo that seems utterly faultless. Another particularly strong track is The River. More of a slower song in comparison to the especially fast-paced songs on either side of it, it keeps the album fresh and engaging.

Shadows Of The Dying Sun is a truly beautiful album and more than proves that Insomnium is still a force to be reckoned with. A release that will surely blow more than a few people away.
