So Download Festival is just 2 weeks away and we know it’s always so hard to pick who you go to see. There’s always so many news bands to check out along side some of your favourites at Download Festival and we figure if we give you a bit of a preview of each and let them introduce themselves to you, it may make your planning easier.
Dead City Streets formed in Hull in late 2012 and have since spent their time combining hardcore with technical elements.
Who are you and what do you do?
We are Dead City Streets; a technical hardcore band from Hull in the North of England.
How did you get started?
Simon (Guitar) messaged me (Dana, Vocals) out of the blue over Facebook, despite never having met, to ask if I would be interested in starting a hardcore band with him and his friend Luke (Drums). I gave my friend Arron (Bass), who I knew from a previous band, a text to see if he would be interested and a couple of weeks later we got together and wrote a couple of songs and we haven’t looked back since.
What stage and day are you playing at Download Festival?
We are opening the Red Bull stage at 11am on the Sunday morning. It’s going to be very interesting to see who are the boys and who are the men at that time in the morning after 3 days of drinking.
What’s the best thing about playing Download Festival?
You don’t have to be a veteran of metal gigs and festivals to know that Download is a HUGE festival, attracting people from across the globe. It’s so exciting to be playing the same event that some of our heroes have played/are playing and hopefully we can make a good impression.
Who are you most looking forward to seeing play at Download?
There’s lots of bands that we’re all individually looking forward to seeing, but as a band we’re all really looking forward to Arcane Roots, The Dillinger Escape Plan and Marmozets.
Have you got any surprises in store for you Download set?
We will be throwing in a cheeky homage to one of the classic rock giants that are playing this year. If you want to know who or what you’ll have to come and watch us!
What’s your best festival memory either personally attending as a fan or in the band? And what’s your advice to all the festival goers?
The best thing I ever experienced at a festival was when the sun finally came out after 3 days of nonstop wind and rain at download 2012, all of a sudden life was once again worth living.

We barely even stop to breathe onstage, if people like the intensity and chaos from the shows of bands like The Chariot then they should definitely come and see us. We will be pulling out all the stops to put on the most chaotic performances we can and wipe away the hangovers.
