If 70’s style hard rock is something you treasure then Scottish three piece Hair Of The Dog are a band you 100% need in your life.
This 7 track mini-album has all the great influences from the golden era of hard rock and it’s brought kicking and screaming into the modern world.
Opener The Game is an absolute riff monster, and has some fine vocals from singer/guitarist Adam Holt; whose voice travels from the melodic verses to the impassioned howl of the chorus with ease.
At times you feel almost a stoner rock type of vibe; at times it’s a bit Spinal Tap, but with the bands influences worn proudly there isn’t too much variation here. However, what they do they do it very well.
Empty As The Wind is a fast paced rocker which finishes with a kick ass instrumental section.
There are riffs and melodies aplenty in Concrete Waves. It has almost a southern rock kinda vibe and is definitely a head banger.
They make a hell of a lot of noise for a three piece, the aforementioned singer/guitarist Adam Holt is joined by his brother Jon on drums, with Iain Thompson pumping out the bass lines.
This mini album ends with the slower paced Ships In The Night, which contains a star turn by Adam, both the voice and guitar on this track are excellent.
Like I said, if 70’s tinged melodic hard rock with killer riffs are your thing you literally need to download this.
