Sometimes a release grabs you on your first listen and sometimes it takes a little longer to get into it, but Sangus’ new EP Saevitia grabs you by the shoulders from the introduction alone and doesn’t let go until the closing chords ring out in the final song. It’s a great EP that brings together crust and black metal into one unholy offering and they have the balance just right.
The EP gets swiftly moving with the title track serving as the opener. The almost ambient-sounding vocals at the very start work incredibly well and you’re then instantaneously hit with a heavy and aggressive instrumental section that keeps up the momentum, leaving you wanting to move about and bang your head in time to it.
Things progress strongly from there and penultimate track Live To Kill is a particularly good track, with powerful vocals and a great black metal guitar melody atop of a crustier drumline, and everything just works, making for a striking and memorable track as a whole.
Saevitia is an excellent little piece and more than proves that Sangus is an absolute force to be reckoned with! A great listen.
