Introducing Lancaster

Lancaster

Lancaster are currently getting ready to release their debut album Journeys – keep an eye on the site for our review coming soon! We caught up with the band to find out a little more.

Can you introduce yourself and tell me a little about the band?
We are a rock band since 2011, we are from Barcelona and we are trying to make a living of music.

How did you get started?
From the beginning we have been very hard-working, we released our first EP Squaring The Circle and went on a Spanish tour introducing it, it was amazing but we needed to move forward, and after many member changes and new music written we recorded our new album Journeys.

On the subject of Journeys, can you tell me about your writing and recording process?
It was amazing, the writing was slow because we wanted to get the best of us, some songs were written in some another countries to get new feelings, but yes, we have been stuck for months in our studio writing loads of new songs and just 10 survived. The recording process was even better, it’s like one of the best things of being in a band, we have worked with Marc Martin, Santi Maspons and Carlos Ringo on producing, recording and mixing, and Dick Beetham (Young Guns, Enter Shikari, Funeral For A Friend…) on the mastering.

Were there any tracks that were more of a challenge to get down?
Yes, we were prepared to record the songs, but some parts needed another point of view, that’s why our producers helped us a lot. We finally got what we wanted, 10 songs, 10 hymns.

Which track are you most proud of?
I would say Bridges, it’s the most personal one, and has everything we were searching for, dark feelings, dark lyrics and a hopeful background.

Any interesting tales from the studio?
Everything was great, like I’ve said before we were very prepared to start, so we were quite fast in some things! Other ones took more time, like strings arrangements, it was very chaotic but the final result was mental! I would say that I was like blocked the first day of recording voices and we had to throw that day away into the garbage bin, anyways, I was very supported for the producers and my mates.

What has been your best experience in the business?
Working with such amazing people, we are very grateful to everyone who helped us even if this is a long road.

And what’s the hardest thing about being in the business?
Lies and broken illusions. It’s a shame being that young we have lived too much lies, but nothing can’t stop us, we are the one who decide this, and we are confident, we’ll keep it up!

What inspires you?
The feelings in the darker side of the humanity, the stuff we couldn’t say.

Who are your role models and idols?
Matthew Bellamy (Muse), Simon Neil (Biffy Clyro) and Gustav Wood (Young Guns).
