Six Time Champion – Expecting Honesty Review

Six Time ChampionThere is a lot of bands emerging from the woodwork when it comes to pop punk and inevitably it means that there is also a lot of bands that sound similar to one another. Six Time Champion sadly fall victim to this and their new EP, Expecting Honesty just doesn’t really stand out from the crowd.

The songwriting isn’t bad, with high-energy tracks such as Running Dry and Separation being songs that sound tailor-made to be performed in a live environment and title track Expecting Honesty is an emotive number with some hard-hitting lyrics but there’s nothing about the music that makes you think this is Six Time Champion because it’s just not that distinctive – it would be quite easy to stick another band’s name on the music and nobody would be any the wiser.

It also doesn’t help that there isn’t much variation between the songs. The songs all seem to follow the same fast-paced format with similar-sounding introductions and choruses to one another, and at times you don’t know which song is which as they do tend to blend together into one.

There’s potential to be found in the EP and there’s certainly the raw materials there for Six Time Champion to create a formidable release in the future, but unfortunately this time round, they haven’t quite managed to go the distance with Expecting Honesty. It’s alright, but it’s nothing special.
