Editor’s Playlist – 18 May 2015

This week has been absolutely hectic for us here at Soundscape, but thankfully we’ve managed to find the time to squeeze in a listen to some music – check out this week’s picks below or over at our last.fm page here.

Steve’n’Seagulls – Holy Diver
The new Steve’n’Seagulls album is a memorable listen to say the least, and if you haven’t heard of this band yet then you really need to check them out. Playing country/bluegrass covers of well-known metal songs may sound like a gimmick but just wait until you actually hear them – the covers are masterfully arranged and their debut album Farm Machine is definitely something that every metal fan needs to hear.

Cain’s Offering – Antemortem
Cain’s Offering have just released their incredible second album Stormcrow (our review of which can be read here) and one of our favourite tracks from it is the incredibly catchy Antemortem. This is a powerful and energetic track, and in particular the way the keys and guitar bounce off one another is masterful! Click play and be amazed.

Earthside – The Closest I’ve Come
The Closest I’ve Come is the first cut from Earthside’s upcoming debut album A Dream In Static and it shows a lot of promise and potential. An eight-minute epic, it will keep you on the edge of your seat thanks to all the twists and turns that feature in the song and its something you’ll notice something new on with each subsequent listen. You can also check out our introducing feature with the band here.

Katatonia – First Prayer
I have been listening to a lot of Katatonia recently and whilst I eagerly anticipate their next album, I’ve been paying close attention to their previous studio album, Dead End Kings. One of the highlights of it is the emotive First Prayer and it’s one of those songs that will worm its way into your head and remains there for days on end after listening – it really is that great.

Kuolemanlaakso – Glastonburyn lehto
Okay, so with the news that Twin Peaks is officially back with David Lynch directing all the episodes, I couldn’t help but give a little nod to it in this week’s playlist by featuring my all-time-favourite Twin Peaks-inspired track, Glastonburyn lehto by the fantastic Kuolemanlaakso. No more words necessary, just listen and fall in love with this song.
