Golers – South Mountain Style Review

golers south mountain styleFirst released in 1999 the inbred militia were obviously the conspirators behind Lars Ulrichs snare on St. Anger. Tailing the release of recent In’N’Outlaws Golers return to their grassroots by re-issuing their first incestuous raid upon the prairies South Mountain Style digitally.

With the exception of Lars, South Mountain Style is an aggressively comic hot pot of spunk and b-side thrashing served with a helping of steamin’ piss. If that doesn’t whet your appetite then “ya’ll jist get what’s coming ta ya, ay.” Followed by a stompy boot.

A light hearted upbeat album the punk element is spot on and heats up the muddy downtuned riffage with incendiary wit. Its thrash guitars are brutal, and that is perfect, but that fucking snare is so prevalent in the mix it sounds like pop, pop, pop music. It is tighter than Joan Rivers next face lift. Infact it was so popular it made it big on Metallicas’ St. Anger. It does segue neatly into how tight the entire record is though.

The best part though is the thrash metal incidental solos with killer flicks and high-end trills, and though sparse on South Mountain Style they are like torrents of intense sonic winds, diverting attention from that Rice Krispies snare.

Snap, Crackle and Pop. You were adopted.
