It feels like it’s been a long time coming, but Lamb Of God are finally back with their new album Sturm Und Drang and it’s an absolute belter of a record that could perhaps be billed as one of the band’s strongest to date.
There’s plenty of great songs on there but one that gets your attention fairly early on is 512, which also happens to be one of the singles that Lamb Of God have released. It’s clear why, as it’s a very powerful and passionate number that features one of the best vocal performances on the entire album – the half-shouted, half-sang chorus is one of those lines that inexplicably gets stuck in your head and I can already see the crowds singing those lines back in a live environment.
Another strong track is Overlord, which is a very emotive number; the instrumentation is fairly stripped-back and simplistic for the most part, and the vocal line takes a gentler approach, and the melodic sections are juxtaposed very well against the heavier and more in-your-face sections, really helping the songs to get stuck in your head.
As a whole, Sturm Und Drang is a great listen and it holds your interest from start to finish. It doesn’t quite have that special spark but nevertheless Lamb Of God have come out fighting with this release and this is an album you don’t want to miss.
