Sibiir – Swallow & Trap Them Review

sibiir_coverSwallow & Trap Them may only be a two-track release from newcomers Sibiir but for what it is, it packs a real punch.

It’s difficult to earmark Sibiir into one sole genre because there’s elements of hardcore, noise-rock, post-metal and even a sprinkling of black metal but that’s one of the things that makes this offering such a strong one, showing that Sibiir aren’t afraid of experimenting and being adventurous with the music they make.

Swallow & Trap Them!, the first track of the two, is a downright noisy affair, featuring clashing guitars, half-wailed-half-screamed vocals and relentlessly crashing drums that results in an aural assault on your ears in the best possible way. Then there’s following track These Rats We Deny. There’s a bit more melody to this one, particularly in the song’s introduction and it feels almost like a mini epic, with big instrumental lines accompanying the passionately-delivered vocals.

All in all, this is a great little listen with a lot of promise – big things are coming with their upcoming debut album, I’m sure of it.

8/10
