We Came As Romans – We Came As Romans Review

We Came As RomansThere’s no question that the self-titled album from We Came As Romans can be described as a unique listen, but on the other hand it does feel more like a mish-mash of ideas rather than a well-constructed piece.

We Came As Romans is an album that features many different styles and ideas and whilst it’s good that the band aren’t afraid of experimenting with their music, it just feels a little difficult to follow and We Came As Romans flit between different styles such as hardcore, melodic rock and even rap metal at one point. It results in the album being a rather difficult listen and you can’t quite connect with it due to it being a bit jumpy and disorganised – songs don’t flow tremendously well from one to the next.

That’s not to say the album is a complete write-off. We Came As Romans certainly have the ability to write a catchy chorus or two, and there’s plenty of sing-along moments as a result. Additionally, there’s a lot of power behind the harsh vocals and when coupled with the instrumentation creating a wall of sound, it makes you want to bang your head along in time! However when put together, it just doesn’t work and flow as it perhaps should.

As a whole, the piece just leaves a lot to be desired – there’s potential and promise, but it just needs a bit more organisation before it becomes a formidible listen.

4/10
