My Refuge – A Matter Of Supremacy Review

My Refuge A Matter Of SupremacyWe first covered My Refuge last year, in the form of a review of their EP Living In Anger – and now they’re back with their debut album A Matter Of Supremacy.

A Matter Of Supremacy takes what was good about Living In Anger and builds on it to create a very substantial and established listen that will really grab your interest. The vocals are engaging, the guitars powerful with a nice bit of complexity to them and everything just slots together fantastically. Gripping your interest from the fast-paced opening number A Storm Is Coming, which you will surely find yourself singing along to after a few listens, My Refuge power through a momentum-packed album with highlights such as Endless Night and Empty Room.

A particular highlight of the piece is The Raven, a unique piece that sees the band experimenting with a few different styles throughout. Featuring a gospel/choral-sounding vocal line on occasions, an injection of acoustic guitars to finish and a technical proggy edge to the electric guitars throughout in addition to their more ‘traditional’ power metal approach, this is a track that is definitely worth a closer look and helps My Refuge to make the release stand out from others in the power metal genre.

A Matter Of Supremacy is a great listen and shows a band on the cusp of success – My Refuge is a band worth keeping your eye on because they have the potential to go far.
