Rendezvous Point – Solar Storm Review

rendezvous point solar stormIf you’re looking for well-written, well-constructed and basically all-round stunning prog, then you need not look further than Rendezvous Point, who have recently released an absolute blinder with their new album Solar Storm. Featuring members from Leprous, Borknagar and ICS Vortex amongst others, you can hear stylistic elements from all the other bands, yet Rendezvous Point have also found a sound of their own, which certainly deserves to be commended.

Each track is as hard-hitting as the last, but a song that really leaves an impression on you is middle track The Hunger. The introduction alone is catchy and gripping, and it progresses tremendously from there. There’s a wonderful heaviness to the track, yet the melody in the song is strong and powerful, resulting in the balance being just right, and the repeating ideas that crop up throughout the track’s duration really worm their way into your head. It’s impressive, to say the least, especially when you throw a nice technical synth solo into the mix!

As a whole, the album just flows so well from start to finish. Each track feels like it is interwoven into the next, with a small thread linking the album from the atmospheric introduction right through to the abrupt conclusion, and as such Rendezvous Point really maintain your interest from start to finish, keeping the listener riveted as the album progresses.

Solar Storm is an album you don’t want to miss. Make sure you take a closer look at it – you absolutely won’t be disappointed.
