PAIN – Coming Home Review

Pain - Coming Home - ArtworkIt feels like it’s been a long five years since the release of PAIN’s last full-length album, You Only Live Twice, but PAIN are back with their new album Coming Home.

Coming Home is another strong release that features some very powerful songs, but it is somewhat predictable when it comes to PAIN – it’s the same tried and tested format that’s featured on their past few releases and although there’s no doubting it’s a good album, there’s some songs that sound strangely familiar to ones featuring on past releases. For example, Pain In The Ass has a definite The Great Pretender vibe to it and whilst it doesn’t make the song any less enjoyable, it is a little more difficult to connect with the song as it’s not really anything new.

Despite this, Coming Home is still good and one of the standout tracks is definitely Black Knight Satellite, which was previously released as a single – and it’s clear why, because it’s one hell of an earworm. It has a great amount of pace and momentum, and the beautifully simplistic introduction draws you in before the main body of the song kicks in. Another highlight is Final Crusade, which is an in-your-face performance that will surely go down a treat in a live environment, should they choose to perform it live.

As a whole, a great album. Perhaps not their best, but a stellar effort all the same.

7/10
