A song that influenced him
Rush – Cygnus X-1 Book II : Hemispheres
Hearing this legendary power trio create conceptual progressive music like this was a huge ear and eye opener. The science fiction-like lyrics, the incredible use of time signatures, the unique harmony and the incredible playing really changed the way I looked at arranging a piece of music. What they did, in the time period they did it in, is nothing short of mind-blowing. Plus, I have to admit, as a Canadian..I have such a soft spot for Rush.

Opeth – Burden
I’ll just come right out and say it – this song has made me cry. It’s just absolutely gorgeous.
His favourite song he’s written
Remarkably Human
When I finished writing this piece of music, I remember feeling relieved. I actually felt like I was finding my own voice not only as a guitar player, but as a musician. Very proud of this one.
A song he’s been listening to a lot recently
Steely Dan – Babylon Sisters (the live version from ‘Alive In America’)
The performances, the tones, the writing, the vibe..It’s all there. This track is the opening song from my favorite live album. It’s just brilliant. I wish I could understand harmony on the same level as the guys from Steely Dan. Maybe one day!
His all time favourite song
Alice Cooper – I Never Wrote Those Songs
I love Alice Cooper. Especially the first handful of solo albums. This isn’t what I would consider his best track, but It’s one that comes attached to some pretty special memories. Bonus – this song features a killer sax solo hah.
