On a busy Saturday afternoon after the chaotic and somewhat amusable rugby, the queue flows down the street ready for Lower Than Atlantis, young and old, all fired up.
And who do we have here? It’s Young Guns once again on another dashing support slot, playing as per, to their upmost potential. As if it were perfectly scripted they get the crowd rallied and dancing. Gustav is a invigorating frontman – he carries the ‘oomph’ factor as it were – alluring and compelling vocals. The crowd feel like they’re all almost here for YG as they are for LTA.
In support of their latest album Safe In Sound Lower Than Atlantis haven’t seemed to of stopped with the hits and bring their ensemble to Cardiff’s Great Hall. They’ve had their hardships over the years but tonight Lower Than Atlantis gracefully emerge one by one to cheers from a delightful crowd who sing from the get go.
Frontman Mike doesn’t hesitate to thank fans and get stuck into his love of music and their gratitude. One thing you can always admire about LTA is their openness about where they’ve come from and it shows in their live performance – powerful and spirited.
Although vocals feel a little lost beneath the rest of the band Mike ploughs on and takes little time outs to smile numerous times throughout the set and the bands appreciation just shines. Parts of the night see projections over the back screen from the band live themselves to vibrant rainbows reflecting the mood of the set, the crowd, the night – formidable and beautiful.
They’re a band with many more hits hidden in their pockets ready to burst on the radio waves and as this tour goes to show it feels like they’re more than proving their ground and deserve a bigger slice of the action.
A favourable night in all, even for the many that may have been here to just witness the supports, everyone leaves with a smile. Tonight has felt like it’s been an emotional night for all, as end of tours go.
