Mikko Joensuu – Amen 3 Review

mikko joensuu amen 3Well, we all knew it was coming – Mikko Joenssu is back once again with the final release of his triple album Amen. I was a big fan of the two previous parts of the album (indeed, my review of Amen 1 was posted exactly a year ago today, funnily enough!) and I had high hopes for Amen 3, so I’m very pleased to say that I was not disappointed.

Amen 3 is the most avant-garde piece of the three, and whilst it may not be to everyone’s tastes, in my opinion the wide variety to the piece makes it a more engaging, gripping and memorable piece because you’re never quite sure what’s going to come next so arguably, this makes the album the strongest of the three.

There’s a lot of emotion dripping from the vocals, particularly in the third track The Worst In Me, which is a very heartfelt performance from Joensuu (it’ll give you goosebumps!) and the interesting off-tempo rhythm in the stripped back piece gives the song a lot of character and individuality.

As a whole, Amen 3 serves as a wonderful closer to the trilogy and it’s a very satisfying listen. Mikko Joensuu has created something wonderful with Amen and it’s been an absolute pleasure to have followed Amen‘s journey from the start.
