Cellar Darling – This Is The Sound Review

Cellar Darling - This Is The Sound - ArtworkSometimes when you hear an album for the first time, you can tell it’s going to be amazing simply after hearing the first few notes. This Is The Sound, which is the debut album from Cellar Darling, definitely falls into this category.

This Is The Sound is a great collection of songs and really plays on Cellar Darling’s strengths. Opener Avalanche is an instant hit that will almost immediately worm its way into your head thanks to its catchy chorus, and the atmospheric introduction will really grip your attention. There’s just something special about this song, and it really sets the scene well for things to come as the album progresses, with other highlights being the previously-released Challenge, the soft-yet-dark sounding Six Days and the fast-paced and groovy later track Starcrusher.

It’s clear that a lot of time and effort has gone into making this album one to remember. From the beautifully succinct vocals to the powerful drums and the magnificent wall of sound from the guitars, all three members add their own stamp to the music, and there’s an unrivalled togetherness to the band’s sound as a whole, which is really rewarding to hear.

This Is The Sound is surely the start of something special for Cellar Darling, and the fact that this is only the beginning definitely bodes well for the band’s future.
