Kuoleman Galleria – Pimeys saapuu pohjoiseen Review

Release date: 8th December 2017

We were suitably impressed by Finnish black’n’roller band Kuoleman Galleria’s previous album Kärsimys Kunniaan, so the news that they’re back for another round is excellent. Pimeys saapuu pohjoiseen follows on largely from where the last album left off and it’s just as good.

There’s no doubting that Kuoleman Galleria is consistent because Pimeys saapuu pohjoiseen is another powerful and memorable bit of work. There’s a lot of variety to their sound over the course of the album and although it’s a little on the lengthy side with fourteen tracks (meaning that some tracks inevitably don’t stand out as much as others) it doesn’t take too much away from it.

Whilst there’s plenty to sink your teeth into on this album, one of the standout tracks has to be later song Vainajan Virsi. The hypnotic introduction draws you in and the unique vocal approach throughout is great. The song as a whole has more of an acoustic vibe, with a nice heavy section just after the halfway mark, and the string lines are especially good, adding another bit of variety to the already-tremendous track.

All in all, this is another great bit of work from Kuoleman Galleria and it’s been a pleasure to hear such a great follow-up release from them! Kuoleman Galleria is one talented band and we can’t wait to see what they’ll do next!

9/10
