Nervus – Everything Dies Review

Release date: March 9th 2018

Everything Dies is the second album from Nervus following 2016’s Permanent Rainbow. It’s an accessible and fairly catchy piece, with lyrics focusing on important subjects such as dysphoria and acceptance amongst other topics, and it is certainly something that deserves to have a closer look.

On a purely musical sense, the album is a little straightforward. The songs follow a very standard format and although they’re definitely catchy, it doesn’t feel like you’re listening to anything special. However, the way the songs sound is only part of the picture, as Everything Dies is a release that you definitely need to listen to a little more closely – and this is because of the lyrics.

In short, they are absolutely stunning. They’re written from the heart, and are incredibly meaningful. This is one of those albums that you need to listen closely to in order to fully appreciate and take the lyrics in. Third track Sick Sad World is one of the stronger ones (I wasted too much time/Got lost in someone else’s life/So where do I begin?), and the words in The Way Back will surely send shivers down your spine. (If I could learn to just accept myself/Then fuck everybody else/They can try and fucking kill me) The words are so honest and raw, and there’s a great positivity to it all, which is very inspiring.

Everything Dies is an album that shouldn’t be taken at face value. Pick up a copy, stick it on at top volume and prepare to be impressed as you immerse yourself in it.
