Amor/Noir is the second album from Canadian post-punk/darkwave duo Strvngers. It’s an intriguing piece of work with a lot of individuality to it, and it makes for a good listen as a result.
The electronics in the music are especially strong, adding a lot of atmosphere and ambience to the piece. Amor/Noir is a melodically-driven work for the most part, with a nice bit of added white noise in certain parts. Third track Fetisha is a particularly good example of this, feeling like a bit of a ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ track due to how the melodic sections juxtapose against more noise-driven lines.
One of my personal highlights is fourth track Leder Dame, which features a serious earworm of a chorus that will be stuck in your head for days. The song as a whole is a striking one that will get under your skin, and remain with you after you’ve finished listening to the album. Meanwhile, later track Noir is another strong inclusion, and has a wonderful darkness to its sound. The vocals are almost hypnotising, and the more aggressive approach in parts adds an extra spark to the song.
As a whole, Amor/Noir is a great bit of work. It showcases Strvngers’ strengths and is a well-rounded album – make sure you check this one out.
