Among The Dormant Watchers is the third full-length album from Forest Of Shadows, but unfortunately it doesn’t seem to make much of an impact. It feels like a little bit of a let-down, and certainly doesn’t showcase Forest Of Shadows at its strongest.
The album does drag a little over its 66 minute duration, and none of the seven tracks make a massive impact. It’s just somewhat lacklustre as a whole, with elements not quite blending together well and other aspects sounding somewhat repetitive. It sounds a little bit like background music rather than a full-fledged listen, and it’s disappointing because Forest Of Shadows can surely do better than this.
There’s times when the music has a sparkle to it. There’s a nice big instrumental section in the first half of opener Self Inflicted Torment and the emotion to the vocals in later track Lullaby is absolutely stunning. However as a whole, these little moments just aren’t enough to help the piece make a bigger impact than it does.
All in all, not the most powerful or memorable of albums. Hopefully their next release will make a bigger impact than this one.
