Undantagsfolk – Den ondes fingrar Review

Release date: 4th January 2019

Den ondes fingrar is the debut EP from folk duo Undantagsfolk (featuring Elea of Noeta and Erik of Grift) and it’s a beautiful piece of work that makes for some stunning listening.

Although fairly simplistic in its approach, the sparseness to the music really works. The combination of the gently delivered female vocals and the soft folk instruments means that you pay attention to absolutely every element of the piece, and the pair clearly have a lot of talent in being able to carry the two songs with nothing but the bare minimum.

First track Då All Tid Försvinner has a very ambient vibe to the vocals; they set the scene well and really grab your interest. The slow pace means you take every little detail in, and although the piece is minimalistic, there is a very rich and powerful tone to it all.

Second track Den ondes fingrar is the stronger of the two, which is down to the very emotive delivery from both the vocals and instrumentation. There’s a stunning beauty to the combination, and really helps to finish the EP on a high note – so it’s no wonder that this one was chosen to be the title track.

As a whole, Den ondes fingrar is an excellent bit of work – it really draws you in and makes you pay attention to its beauty. This may only be the debut release from Undantagsfolk, but it shows a lot of promise for this talented duo.
