Crepuscle – Heavenly Skies Review

Release date: October 11th 2019

I first came across Crepuscle about five years ago with a review request for their debut album Draconian Winter. Although it did admittedly suffer from a lack of variety between the songs at times, it was a decent enough album in its own right and I was eager to hear more from this talented band. They are now back with the follow-up, Heavenly Skies, and you can really hear the progression between the two albums.

Heavenly Skies has a bit more oomph, and feels a little more polished, with a lot of momentum to keep things moving. Crepuscle have really stepped things up with this album, delivering one strong song after another and keeping the listener completely focused from start to finish. It’s very engaging and together, and the songwriting is very strong throughout.

Fifth track Etheral Waters is a particular highlight; the intro draws you in with its slightly moody vibe and the thick, lush instrumental tones set the scene well. When the powerful vocals kick in, they give the track another level, and they juxtapose perfectly against the more melodic instrumental sections. Every element of the song works well and results in a very striking and memorable track.

Crepuscle have really delivered with Heavenly Skies. They have taken the elements of Draconian Winter that worked well, and built on them to create something special. If you liked their debut, then you’re going to absolutely love this one.

9/10
