Those who have been following the site for a while will no doubt have heard of Promethium, a band that we have familiarised ourselves with over the years with coverage of their studio albums. 2019 has seen the band trying something a little different in the form of an acoustic album entitled Revisions.
Revisions is the result of the band being asked to play an acoustic set at SOS Festival back in 2017, and putting on such a good performance that fans subsequently began asking when Promethium were going to be releasing an acoustic album! It features reworked versions of songs from the band’s first three albums, along with one brand new song.
I was certainly intrigued to see how the music would translate into a different format, because Promethium’s “usual” style is quite gritty and in-your-face, but it really works for them. The songs get a new spin, and the stripped back vibe feels very raw and real – they certainly don’t lack the emotive of the original songs.
It’s difficult to pick favourites because each of the tracks shine in their own right, and slot perfectly together to form a well-rounded and solid album. If I hadn’t already been familiar with the original material I’d have honestly assumed that everything had been purpose-written for this release because each track slots in perfectly next to one another.
Promethium have really created something great with Revisions. It’s an enjoyable release that can stand on its own, and it’s very refreshing to hear them creating an album in a style outside of their usual one. A highly recommended listen.
