I first came across Dool at Dark Easter Metal Meeting in 2018, where they put on an impressive mid-afternoon performance, and I’ve kept an eye on them ever since. Their style of psychedelic dark rock is hypnotic and mesmerising, reminding me of bands like Jess & The Ancient Ones and Avatarium – which can never be a bad thing.
The album sounds massive from start to finish, and is infectiously catchy. The vocal line is made for being sang along to, and the riffs will get under your skin and into your head. Every element is there for making a memorable release, and that’s exactly what Dool have created.
The title track Summerland is perhaps the highlight of the album, a triumphant track with beautifully emotive vocals, some insanely catchy guitar solos and a powerful repeating riff that really helps the song to make an impact – it’s no surprise that it was chosen to be the title track because it embodies all that makes Dool’s sound so good.
Summerland is an album that is light & airy, as well as dark & mysterious, and is completely mesmerising. It will draw you in and get under your skin. An album definitely worth your attention.
