You can always rely on The Rasmus to put out quality, enjoyable releases, and their tenth album Rise is once again a strong, powerful release packed full of earworms that deserve to be blasted at top volume.
Opener Live And Never Die sets the scene well with a big, bright introduction and the song just has a nice vibe to it – it’s hard to describe, but it just feels good to listen to. Plus, the ‘woahs’ are surely begging to be sung along to in a live environment. The album progresses well from there, with second track Rise – the title track – being an early highlight. With a big sing-along chorus and seriously catchy riffs, you’ll find yourself humming along to this for days.
Fifth track Odyssey is a personal favourite of mine. It’s a softer, slower-paced track that’s on the more simplistic side, and with everything laid bare, it really gives the band time to shine. There’s a lot of emotion in the performance, and gives you goosebumps on every listen – it’s a very moving song. Meanwhile following track Jezebel is a seriously catchy earworm, and it’s no surprise that this was the song they chose to successfully represent Finland at Eurovision with. It’s a memorable hit track which sounds absolutely massive.
It’s rare that a band can continually release albums without one dodgy track here and there, but The Rasmus have done just that. With the five year gap they usually seem to take between albums these days, it’s clear they always spend a lot of time refining and honing their material to ensure they always bring their A-game – and Rise is another top-notch album.
