Singled Out: Coldwards – Antidote

You never know when you are going to come across that next song that finds a way to get stuck in your head, and this time the discovery of the day goes to the new single Antidote by Houston, Texas alt-metal band Coldwards.

Let’s be clear on the point that whenever Coldwards returns with a new single it is nothing less than a cinematic and emotionally driven new single. Every song they put out comes off as an authentic diary entry from a troubled but hopeful mind, and I am here for this type of music all day long.

Antidote follows in the steps of Coldwards’ previously intense and very successful single Bad News and Flatline, two songs that blew me away when I heard them. The first moments of this scorching single are somewhat industrial in their sound, almost inspired by something that could have been heard from Nine Inch Nails with The Downward Spiral. Antidote takes what Coldwards has been showing us and then ramping up the intensity to yet another level for the band.

To be honest, after hearing the ranging music that Coldwards creates is almost an insult to the band to try and compress their energy and signature style into a single genre box. Coldwards could be nu metal, alt-rock, and a few hints of something else, which for me is exactly what captures my interest in this band, and judging by how fast their community of listeners is growing, I am not the only one that feels this way.

Well done, Coldwards, on yet another crushingly good song that should be added to a movie soundtrack. Clearly, you boys didn’t arrive on the scene to be ignored, and with Antidote you won’t be.
