Always on the look out for something new and unique I happened across Local Foreigners, and whats better is that they are from Cardiff.
The band are a creative mix of music, from alt rock to dance and dubstep.Â
The band have played sold out shows in Cardiff in venues such as the Globe, Moon Club and they also played Noel Gallagher’s Official After Show Party in Tiger Tiger.
Local Foreigners are Zac Noneley – Guitar / vocals, Rob Lambert – Synth / electronics, James Goulbourn – Drums, Saracen Bessel – Bass and Jon Wilson – Guitar and we spoke to James to fill us in on the Local Foreigners.
Please introduce yourself? Â I’m James Goulbourn, I play drums in Local Foreigners! A unique, Alternative/Electronic rock band from Cardiff Town!
Where did the bands name come from? Â Rob (synth) and Zac(vocals) came up with it and thought it was cool so it stuck!
How did you get started? Â It orginally started as duo with Zac and Rob and then formed into what it is now.
What have you got going on at the moment? Â A lot of plans for gigs out of Cardiff and Wales in general, including some studio plans.
Favourite music and why? Â Personally I like most genre’s from metal to dubstep! But I am really getting into house music at the moment!
Favourite book and why? Â Whats a book?
Favourite film and why? Â Ace Ventura Pet Detective – Probably the film that can somes up our personalities in the band, passionate but room to piss around.
Best experience in the business? Â Selling out Clwb Ifor Bach and having the crowd sing your songs back to you.
Why should Soundscape readers care? Â Our music is unique and we put so much energy and create an atmosphere that you just have to join in for when we are live.
Tell our readers an interesting fact about the band?  Our band actually consists of Locals and Foreigners which is a coincidence Oh, and we use an ironing board on stage.
What’s the best and worst things about touring? Â The best thing is playing to crowds of people that have never heard of you and watching them enjoy themselves or hate you which is fun. The worst is the lack of showers and leaving everyone back home.
Most embarrassing thing to happen to you while in the band? Turning up to a gig with no equipment. We played at the 200 club in Newport and brought nothing but guitars and a snare. Our van broke down so we had to get a bus!
What’s your writing and recording process? Â We have so many new songs and ideas flying about its hard to pick which one to record! But we will be heading back into the studio some time during April/May to record some new material!
What inspires you?  The ability to live in a world where you can do what ever you want if you really believe in it, sounds gay but true!
Whats the best thing about coming from Wales? Â The music scene is really growing here but most bands seem to be no different. So standing out is always great when we play shows along great bands!
Who are your role models/idols? Saracen (bass) – David Gilmour (Pink Floyd)
Rob (synth) – Rou Reynolds (Enter Shikari)
James (Drums) – John Bonham (Led Zepplin)
Zac Noneley (Vocals) Â – Mike Duce (Lower Than Atlantis)
Jon Wilson (Guitar) – Â Lee Malia (Bring me the horizon)
Hardest thing about the current business? Â Getting people to listen too you. Nobody seems to answer or reply to emails these days! We try our best to get through to companies and promotion teams, we usually get replies months later!
What are your future plans? Â Build our fanbase outside Wales, Tour and record! We don’t want to disappear off the map.
Final question, one we ask everyone, who is your favourite Batman actor?  Adam West of course!
If you like your music challenging, unique and genre-busting then check out this great band.
