Abyssic – High The Memory Review

Release date: 22nd February

To say High The Memory is a work of art is somewhat of an understatement. Combining funeral death/doom with orchestral lines, it’s a sublime pairing that really works for Abyssic – as funeral doom is one of the more ‘monotonic’ genres, so to speak, the orchestration adds a good elememt of melody to it all.

High The Memory may only feature five tracks but there’s a lot fleshing out the release, with it clocking in at over 77 minutes in duration. With plenty of embellishments, ideas and melodies to sink your teeth into, you can’t help but notice different elements on every single listen. Everything is just masterfully constructed together and will take your breath away each time you hear it.

The crushingly heavy instrumentation paired up with the deep, guttural growls give the music body and aggression, and the orchestral line adds colour and depth, resulting in an immersive listen you can’t help but get lost in. High The Memory is a bit of a beast with so much to it, but it never feels like it’s too much – everything slots perfectly together and the flow from one song to the next is almost seamless. It’s so polished and stunning that words can’t quite describe how exquisite this really is.

Quite simply, this album should not be missed. Abyssic have created a masterpiece.
