Anna’s Anchor’s Playlist

Anna’s Anchor’s new album Everybody’s Welcome is out today! You can pick up your copy from here. We caught up with Marty Ryan, the man behind the music, to get an insight on the music that makes him tick.

A song that influenced Anna’s Anchor
Osker – Anchor

Well at the time when I started Anna’s Anchor, my favourite song was Anchor by Osker, which ended up being part of the name, and even though it wouldn’t be a song I listen to much anymore, it is probably the biggest influence on Anna’s Anchor!

A song he wishes he could have written
Bon Iver – Blood Bank

This is hard to answer because part of me just wants to say Gangnam Style because I’d be fucking rich. The first song that springs to my mind though with artistic merit is Blood Bank by Bon Iver. I don’t know what it is about that song but it just brings out so many emotions. It’s hopeful, joyous, heartbreaking and everything in between. In terms of the craft of songwriting, I think it’s hard to beat.

His favourite Anna’s Anchor song
Precautionary

“It’s like picking a favourite son/daughter, you can’t do it”, nope, not for me—Precautionary off the new album is my favourite, sorry kids!

A song he’s been listening to a lot recently
And So I Watch You From Afar – All I Need Is Space

I’ve been listening to ASIWYFA really hard over the summer. Their most recent album is almost a year old now but I’m still listening to it every week and All I Need Is Space is my favourite.

His all time favourite song
Windings – Something Outnumbered

This is super hard to answer because honestly, this changes like the wind for me, as evident from my first answer. If I had to put it down on record, stick to my word and never change my answer, it would probably be Something Outnumbered by Windings. They’re a band from my hometown and I’d now consider them close friends but there’s something in there that really resonates with me. Sometimes I find it hard to relate to big bands from other countries because they’ve lived a very, very different life to me but with a band like Windings, it’s so close to home, it literally is home. What a band.
