Anomalie – Between The Light Review

Anomalie Between The LightBetween The Light is the debut album from Anomalie, the solo post-black metal project of Marrok (Harakiri For The Sky, Selbstentleibung) and it’s a refreshing listen, with a nice chilled and atmospheric feel to it.

There’s a great amount of melody in the tracks and a song that works especially well is Blinded. There are soft melodic sections with whispered vocals and heavier, more brutal sections with powerful harsh vocals. The two different elements go hand in hand with one another, both contrasting and complementing each other perfectly. Another highlight is the emotive Recall To Life, which features some haunting clean vocals to begin with before taking a vastly heavier approach. Marrok has perfected the art of getting the balance just right.

One of the best things about Between The Light is that it’s clear Marrok has put his heart and soul into the release – and it shines through with how polished and unique the songs are. You can almost feel the passion coming out from the songs and it’s breathtaking to witness.

It’s almost unbelievable to think that Between The Light is all the work of one individual but that’s exactly what it is. It’s a well-established offering and with beginnings this good, who knows what the future holds for Anomalie!
