Ante-Inferno – A Dream Of The Devil Review

A Dream Of The Devil is the debut release from UK atmospheric black metal outfit Ante-Inferno, and it’s a decent enough starting point for the band.

The music packs a good punch, with a lot of power behind the delivery of both the instrumentation and the vocals, and there’s a lot of momentum to the tracks. As it was recorded live, you can really appreciate the unity between the band members and it’s a very tight and coherent performance from them. It’s clear that the band has worked very closely together on this to ensure a strong delivery and they have definitely delivered in that respect.

However, the release does seem to be a little lacking – there’s not a lot of variety to the songs, so it’s difficult to set the three tracks apart, and although there’s no faulting the enthusiasm and skill from all three members, it does feel like they’re still trying to find their own identity a little. A Dream Of The Devil is still a good listen and a solid piece, but it’s just missing that special something.

As a whole, A Dream Of The Devil is a good introduction to Ante-Inferno. It still needs a little bit of fine-tuning here and there, but considering this is only their first release, it’s certainly a promising insight into what we can hopefully expect in the future from them. This is a band worth keeping an eye on.
