A Swarm Of The Sun’s Playlist

A Swarm Of The Sun

We caught up with A Swarm Of The Sun to get an insight into their musical tastes. As both members kindly answered, we haven’t embedded every track – just one per question – but you can listen to the playlist in its entirety over here on our last.fm page.

A Song That Influenced Them
Erik: Song for Bob by Nick Cave & Warren Ellis. This is one of those songs that makes me euphoric. Every time I listen to it I get an enormous urge to start composing. That’s inspirational.
Jakob: Thuja Magus Imperium by Wolves in the Throne Room. Absolutely superb black metal.

A Song They Wished They Could Have Written
Erik: The Poet Acts by Philip Glass. Brilliant on all levels.
Jakob: I See A Darkness by Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy. It reaches straight for the heart.

Their favourite A Swarm Of The Sun Song
Erik: These Depths Were Always Meant for Both of Us is a key element on the album. This is where many of the fragments and themes you can hear earlier on the album comes together. That was the idea all along when we wrote the album, and it was fantastic to finally turn that into this song.
Jakob: It varies, but These Depths Were Always Meant for Both of Us has a special meaning for me.

A Song They Have Recently Been Listening To A Lot
Erik: Géhenne by Year of No Light. Massive, to say the least.
Jakob: Black Tusk by Loscil. Great music for late-night work.

Their All-Time Favourite Song
Erik: The Smoke Will Lead You Home by Logh. The one time I got to hear the live version beats everything I’ve seen live before.
Jakob: There’s so many, but The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails meant a lot to me growing up, and Reptile is one of the best tracks on there.

A Swarm Of The Sun’s new album The Rifts is out now. Pick it up from here.
