Atlas – Primitive Review

Release date: 5th October 2018

Birthright? Incredible. The Catalyst? Excellent. There’s no doubting Atlas set the bar high for their debut album Primitive after their last two singles, but they absolutely delivered here. Primitive is jaw-droppingly excellent and Atlas have proved that they are a force to be reckoned with.

Opening with Skinwalker, which is one of the strongest tracks of the album, Atlas show they mean business by instantly grabbing your attention. The chorus is seriously powerful (really hoping that it’ll be performed live because the chorus is simply begging to be sang along with!) and it’s one of those songs you’ll want to listen to a few times on repeat before moving on to the next song. Atlas do the whole aggressive verse and massive melodic chorus thing very well, and this song certainly plays on their strengths.

Primitive continues strongly from there, with other great inclusions being third track Kaamos, which shows a slightly softer side to the band as it’s mainly melodically driven, and heavier sixth track Pareidolia will have you banging your head along to it in no time. The variety to the album is good; the nine tracks don’t stray too far away from one another but there’s enough difference between them to showcase their versatility.

This is an all-round exciting album that definitely ticks all the right boxes. Primitive is a very solid foundation for Atlas and it makes for an excellent listen as a result.
