Borders’ Playlist

On May 10, Borders will be releasing their new album Purify – which you should be very excited for! Ahead of its release we caught up with bassist Tom to find out more about the band’s influences and tastes.

A song that influenced Borders
Periphery – Icarus Lives!

I think we all have a lot of overlap when it comes to personal influences – a lot of the Nu-Metal scene of the 90s/2000s which transitioned into metalcore is what we all grew up with! When it comes down to the band as a whole, we first started hanging out and making music when Periphery were breaking through. We had not heard anything like it, the guitar virtuosity, the vocal range and blend of prog and metalcore was captivating. If it came down to a track I think we would all pick Icarus Lives! by Periphery.

A song you wish you could have written
Linkin Park – In The End

In the End By Linkin Park. Such a huge track that effortlessly blends vocal styles and keeps it heavy yet melodic. They really were masters of their craft at that time, and that song has become an anthem for a whole generation.

Your favorite Borders song
Wake Up

Probably Wake Up. It’s a track from our upcoming album Purify with some of my favourite guitar and vocal work.

A song you’ve been listening to a lot recently
Black Tongue – Second Death

Second Death by Black Tongue. Their new album has been constantly in my listening rotation since it came out. I absolutely love it. Such a step above their previous work which I was already a fan of, this album feels like they have dug up some ancient evil and stuck it onto a record. Thrilling stuff.

Your all-time favourite song
Radiohead – Reckoner

From my favourite album, In Rainbows. A mesmerising, ethereal track which never fails to get me emotional. Sit down, close your eyes and put this on through some decent headphones and you will know what I mean.
