Distress Of Ruin – Insights Review

It goes without saying that I loved Distress Of Ruin’s debut EP Predators Among Us, and I still listen to it on a semi-regular basis several years on, which shows how much of an impression it left on me! The band is finally back with their long-awaited new EP Insights and it is definitely a great listen.

Insights doesn’t quite grip you in the same way that Predators Among Us did, and plays out as more of a slow burner, but that’s not a bad thing – it just means you need to listen to it a few more times for it to get completely under your skin. There’s a darker vibe to the EP as a whole and it really works for the band.

Each track packs a punch as Distress Of Ruin power through the five tracks, and things come to a head with the mighty-sounding closer Ablaze In The Ruins. The keys in this one add a great atmosphere to it, both when utilised as a lead and backing instrument (I especially like the body they give the song when presented underneath the vocals!) and the guitar solo in the latter half is absolutely mighty!

As a whole, you can’t really go wrong with this. Distress Of Ruin have followed up their previous EP well, and the future still looks bright for this talented band.
