Event Relentless – Event Relentless EP Review

Release date: 12th July 2018

The third EP from Finnish melodic death metallers Event Relentless, this time a self-titled effort, is another decent effort from the three-piece. Having previously enjoyed their other two releases, I was optimistic about this one – and although it may not be one of the most original or exciting listens out there, it is nevertheless a good listen.

The music doesn’t immediately reach out and ‘grab’ you. The musical and vocal performances are good enough, with the band displaying a considerable amount of skill, but the songs themselves don’t have a great deal of distinguishing features – there’s nothing about them that makes them individual to Event Relentless and it’s a shame because there’s definitely potential here.

Despite this, the EP is good with a nice bit of variety to it. First track Shadows packs a real punch with a strong introduction that is nice and easy to bang your head along to, and the momentum to the track really helps the EP get off to a good start. Meanwhile closing track Hey Girl is an acoustically-driven track that adds a good amount of melody to the EP with some seriously emotive vocals that will give you goosebumps.

All in all, a solid release from Event Relentless – but it would be nice to see them come into their own a little more when it comes to their first full-length album.
