Footprints In The Custard – A New Low Review

Release date: 1st June 2019

Footprints In The Custard’s new album may be called A New Low, but the title certainly isn’t anything to go by when it comes to the quality of the music contained within. Although it can perhaps be said that Footprints is a band best enjoyed live, A New Low packs a real punch and despite the fact I’ve not seen any of these songs performed live (yet), I can safely say it will kick ass in a live environment.

The music has a lot of natural energy to it and the pace doesn’t let up from start to finish. With songs like Tequila Nips and Space Force! being particularly good, you can’t help but want to tap your foot along to them – and as well as that, they’re just fun-sounding songs that are easy to enjoy.

As a surprise to perhaps nobody, my personal highlight is The Horn, which is the track with somewhat of a folk metal vibe to it and is a little different to the rest of the album. A seriously catchy number featuring some sort of traditional horn as a main instrument, it really helps the track to stand out and certainly leaves a lasting impression on you. This is a song that’s been rattling round my head for days after hearing it for the first time – it is such an earworm!

A New Low is a very fine album from Footprints – but as with their prior releases, is perhaps best experienced whilst watching this band live as it’s in a live environment that they really shine.

8/10
