Frozen In Shadows – Frozen In Shadows Review

Release date: 3rd September 2018

Frozen In Shadows is the debut self-titled release from this Manchester supergroup that features members/ex-members from Footprints in the Custard, Prognosis, Impavidus, Vice and Godhand. Whilst not necessarily bringing anything new into the mix, it’s a solid and enjoyable first release from the band which will hopefully be the start of something great.

There’s a good amount of energy to the music, which no-doubt translates well into a live environment, and it’s great to hear the band clearly giving it their all from start to finish – Frozen In Shadows doesn’t let up from the opening riff of Harbringer, right through to the closing chords of Behest. The vocals are especially strong; they have a lot of power and serve as a good driving force to the music – you can’t help but pay attention with such an in-your-face delivery, and it really works.

As a whole, the EP is a good listen but there’s nothing that quite sets it apart from the crowd. It’s musically solid, but the band haven’t quite put their own ‘stamp’ on the piece, as it simply just sounds like ‘another’ melodic death metal release. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, as it’s only their debut release and the band are of course still finding their feet, but a little bit of experimentation on their next release could potentially go a long way.
