Define Progress is the debut 5 EP by Cardiff based band Glass Giants.
Most of the guys were previously in the band Bridges, who I was a big fan of and had always impressed me, and this EP is definitely a cracker.
It has a very different feel to the Bridges EP, this is quite clearly a different band.
Opening track Pilgrim, an uptempo riff laden rocker with melodies aplenty, is a good introduction to the band, the song is well crafted, memorable as hell with a great feel.
Runaway is the first video from the EP and is a huge song. Again, big memorable melodies are in evidence here, coupled with a massive singalong chorus and a star guest vocal from Danni Lafrombé from Peasants King, a brilliant song.
The songs here really keep you guessing, the band haven’t followed any songwriting formula’s at all, each song is completely fresh and very original sounding.
Phoenix is a hugely upbeat and lyrically positive number, with some poppy sounding verses and a heavy singalong chorus, I had to have this song on repeat for some time, such a good tune.
I love the guitar work in final track Young And Free, another song with a huge singalong chorus, melodic as hell, with some definite bite to it, a fitting end for this EP.
All in all this is a hugely ambitious EP from this talented young band, and they definitely hit the mark with it. Great stuff.
9/10
