Vilsna Andars Boning is the new EP from Swedish poet and dark folk artist Grift. It’s a hauntingly beautiful melancholic piece that paints a stunning picture, and it’s an impressive listen that you’ll definitely want to come back to.
Even though the EP only features two tracks, it’s clear that Grift has taken a ‘quality over quantity’ approach and both of the songs bring something different to the release whilst simultaneously blending together well to craft a seamless listen.
For the most part, the music is fairly simplistic, but this is an approach that works well for Grift. The listener is able to take in every little detail that Grift presents and the melodies and ideas will soon get under your skin as a result. The vocals are clear and well-enunciated, so it’s easy to get involved with the music and you’ll soon find yourself humming along to them, even after Vilsna Andars Boning has come to an end. The instrumentation is fantastic too; for the most part it’s fairly minimalistic with just an acoustic guitar but it works, and makes the moments with little embellishments from other instruments really stand out.
Vilsna Andars Boning may only be a short-but-sweet listen, but it’s also a very rewarding one. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we are treated to another full-length album from him!
