Interview With Kissin’ Dynamite

A few weeks ago, Kissin’ Dynamite brought their show to the UK in support of Powerwolf. Wanting to know more, we caught up with the band’s drummer, Andy, for an insight into the band and their music!

So you’ve been on tour with Powerwolf and Amaranthe for about a week, how’s it been going so far?
Actually, we’ve been on tour already more than two weeks now that I’m answering 🙂 We’re in Marseille right now and it really has been a blast. I got the feeling, we got better every evening.

How would you describe your live show to those who haven’t been lucky enough to catch you live yet?
I think, our bandname is quite fitting to describe our music and our shows. There is a tender part (Kissin’) and an explosive part (Dynamite). But it’s always energetic and dynamic. But I don’t want to talk too much about it. Better go and see us live 😉

What would you say the best show you’ve ever played has been?
Of course, there a many highlights in more than 11 years now, but one of the shows I’ll never forget is Tokyo indeed. It was back in 2013 in a small, but packed club. We’ve never been to Japan yet, so it was a kind of a unreal experience. The energy was very high. It was just how a rock concert is supposed to be. You can also watch it on Youtube btw.

What about the strangest or weirdest?
There was actually one on this tour with Powerwolf in Glasgow. We were entering the stage and rocking out to I’ve Got The Fire. The problem was, that the audience just showed no reaction at all, so we were wondering, if we’re really that bad. But fortunately the solution was the fact that the mixing desk had gotten out of control, so that it delayed each of us in a different way. Like that, our music must have sounded like a total mess to the people. But after two songs, we figured it out, took a 5-minute-break and rebooted the desk. After that, we rocked even harder and could see the relief in the peoples eyes. From there on, everything went very well and we had a great party.

If you could play anywhere in the world, on any lineup, what would you choose?
In South America with Iron Maiden 😉

Last year you released your latest album Ecstasy, can you describe the writing and recording process for it?
You know, when we wrote the biggest part of it, we had absolutely no pressure, because we didn’t even have a label at the time. It was summer 2017. Like this, we had a really relaxed atmosphere and I think you can hear it if you listen to the album. Additionally, we somehow naturally went back to our roots: No more experiments like on Megalomania. Only plain rock music which feels good.

Did you do anything differently compared to when you created your previous releases, or do you take the same tried-and-tested approach every time?
Actually, over the years we figured out a nice and smooth way of doing it and we just refine it every time. Hannes mostly composes all the music and I write the lyrics.

How was your time in the studio? Did you run into any challenges or did everything go to plan?
It may be boring, but as I said before, it went all really smooth due to the fact that we had almost no pressure at all while writing most of the material. And I think that’s the best condition you can have when it comes to writing songs.

Which song are you most proud of?
Of course of all of them, but especially I’ve Got The Fire. I just think it’s a great station anthem and the lyrics, band name, video and music fit perfectly together here.

If you could go back and change anything, would you?
No. Everything happens for a reason.

And finally, what’s in store for Kissin’ Dynamite for 2019?
In three days, we will be done with a very successful support tour for Powerwolf. In March and April, we will bring Ecstasy Over Europe in the course of our own headliner tour. After this, the festival season starts in order to lead into another headliner tour in fall. So, we’ve got things to do! 😉
