Could you introduce yourself and tell us about your band?
We are an Irish electro pop/rock band called blancatranser consisting of Keith Colville (bass, backing vocals, synths), Derek Corr (vox, guitars, synths) and Ricky Ryan (drums, effects). We met while living in different countries so the internet became the bridge between distance, rehearsing and song writing. Over the years we’ve honed our process so that songs can be written, arranged and rehearsed without all of us being in the same room. We then get together as a band and rehearse our live shows for upcoming gigs. There’s a great and special connection between us that seems to transcend distance and time and comes through in our sound.
When did the band form?
We formed in 2010.
How did the band form?
We formed while Derek was living in Spain and Keith and Ricky in Ireland. We originally met through a mutual friend on Myspace and then played out first gig (having never met before in person) at a festival in Spain. It was risky but it worked somehow. Keith and Ricky rehearsed in Ireland with Derek’s recorded vocals and guitar and then they had a quick rehearsal in Spain the day before the show and so our process was born!
Who are your biggest influences?
I think we have quite different influences but there are a few common areas (Pearl Jam, Muse, Biffy Clyro,Janes Addiction, Foo Fighters)
What’s the biggest show you’ve ever played?
We played a festival in Spain once in the middle of nowhere, it was a field up in the mountains. We hung around all day waiting to play and finally hit the stage at about 11pm, everyone went nuts and there was great energy on stage. We always remember that one!
How would you describe your live show to someone who hasn’t seen you yet?
We’re a three piece but still our sound is quite big. We use synths, a laptop and effects live too to add the overall feel of our recorded sound but its still a very live feeling. We enjoy playing together and that comes across in our shows.
