Introducing Silenmara

Silenmara

We recently caught up with the guys from Silenmara for a chat to find out a little more about the band. See what happened below!

Can you introduce yourself and tell me a bit about the band?
Hello, we are Silenmara! We are a five piece melodic death metal band that started out in sunny south Florida in early 2008. We pride ourselves in writing heavy music with an underling melody and story line. We are heavily influenced by Scandinavian style bands and it show in our music.

How did you get started?
Silenmara was formed by Jason Gato (Guitar) and Adrian Perez (drums) as sort of a side project, but after the bands we were in fell apart, Silenmara became the main focus. We recruited the talents of Reginal Miller (Vocals) and Paul Casas (Guitar) and began writing music. As the guitars were tuned lower and strings were added we started to find our groove with each other. 7 years late we still have that spark.

Who are your influences and role models?
We are all influenced by so many different styles of music and artists that it is hard to list. We all have the common admiration (more like obsession) for Scandinavian bands like: Soilwork, In Flames, Scar Symmetry, Dark Tranquillity, At the gates etc… That is where we all agree the most. We also thoroughly influenced by American style death metal and Progressive rock/metal.

For those who haven’t seen you live, what can be expected from a Silenmara live show?
Energy, lots of energy.

What has been the best gig you’ve ever played?
Wow that is a tough one…I think the Fear Factory gig was the best, we played to a packed house that genuinely enjoyed our music. We also opened up for Soulfly last year, which would probably come in at a close second place.

And what about the strangest or weirdest?
We’ve played fashion shows, fetish parties and a Chicken wings restaurant. Our definition of strange is blurred haha!

What has been your best experience in the industry so far?
Our best experience in the industry so far has been meeting and getting to know the people that stand behind Silenmara. We are so fortunate to be working with the best of the best to get our music heard. We truly love what we do and when we see people that “get it” and want to help us it truly warms our cold dead hearts.

What’s the most difficult thing about the industry?
By far the most difficult thing (so far) has been getting our name out there. For the most part we are a DIY band weeding through this saturated genre. There are so many great bands out there it makes it difficult to differentiate yourself from the rest. We have made a lot of head way these past few years but it has been an uphill battle.

And finally what’s Silenmara’s plans for the rest of 2015?
2015 holds a lot of great things for Silenmara, we are releasing our much awaited sophomore album “Methods” on May 19th which has been two years in the making. We are also almost done writing our 3rd album, we hope to begin tracking before the end of the year. The biggest thing would be to jump on a good tour, we have a few offers on the table hopefully you will see us in a town near you soon.
