I, The Lion – Run Review

Run EP Cover - FINALRun is the latest EP from post-punk trio I, The Lion and it’s a great listen; very accessible and easy to get into. It’s just a well-rounded release that highlights the band’s strong points.

Opener Hold Strong is a truly fantastic way to get things going. It’s got this massive chorus that’s infectiously catchy and you’ll be singing along to it before you even realise it! It also has the added bonus of some great meaty harsh vocals that add a lot more momentum to the already-strong track. Second track Icarus progresses well from there; it doesn’t quite have the same kick as Hold Strong but it’s an energetic number that will surely be a treat to see live.

Man Made Of Mice follows largely the same sort of structure as Icarus, and whilst it’s certainly not a bad song, it does feel somewhat like a copy-and-paste job so it ruins the flow a little bit, causing the EP to dip a little in the middle. However closer Bonny Island finishes things on a high. A slightly slower song in comparison to the others, it features a strong instrumental line throughout and just rounds off the EP rather nicely.

All in all, Run is a nice easy listen that will certainly be turning a few heads. This may not be the release to propel them into stardom just yet, but the potential is there for this band to achieve even bigger things than what they have so far.

7/10
